TD Charitable Foundation Supports Goodwill Industries of Northern New England with Donation
Portland — TD Bank, through the TD Charitable Foundation, recently donated a total of $10,000 to Goodwill Industries of Northern New England as part of the bank’s commitment to giving back to the community.
Goodwill Industries of Northern New England provides innovative services that eliminate barriers to opportunity and help people reach their fullest potential through the power of work. Individuals are served through job training and placement, career counseling, family strengthening services, youth employment opportunities, brain injury programs and other community support services.
Goodwill will use the funds from the TD Charitable Foundation to hire an AmeriCorps volunteer for the Maine Governor’s Children’s Cabinet in Augusta. The Cabinet is committed to policies to ensure that every Maine child is safe, healthy, well-educated and productive. To align with the Cabinet’s mission, the AmeriCorps volunteer will work for Great Strides Rural Education Corps, a Goodwill AmeriCorps program. Great Strides places volunteers in rural schools throughout Maine to provide mentoring, academic support and service learning opportunities for at-risk youth.
AmeriCorps is a network of local, state and national service programs that connects more than 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet our country’s critical needs in education, public safety, health and the environment. Goodwill’s AmeriCorps programs place volunteers in local nonprofit organizations, schools and rural fire departments and ambulance services to strengthen organizations’ volunteer programs.
“We are thrilled to have the support of the TD Charitable Foundation,” noted Trendy Stanchfield, Director of Development for Goodwill. “Thanks to their backing, we are able to collaborate with a community organization who is committed to hiring AmeriCorps volunteers. AmeriCorps members contribute thousands of hours each year to help further the strength and long term sustainability of local organizations that provide vital services.”
A staunch commitment to active involvement in the local community is a vital element of the TD Bank philosophy. TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank® and the TD Charitable Foundation provide financial and other support to affordable housing initiatives, financial literacy and education and the environment, many of which focus on improving the welfare of children and families.
