Portsmouth Public Library to Partner
with Goodwill Industries
New Workshop will teach Teens
how to Refashion Clothing
Portsmouth, NH – The Portsmouth Public Library and Goodwill Industries of Northern New England announced today a new partnership that will offer teens a thrifty way to express their creativity – they will learn how to alter second-hand garments into trendy new pieces. A series of four classes offered at the library this summer will teach teens a new skill set that will allow them to look at old objects in a new way.
Goodwill has donated gift certificates for the participating teens to shop at either the Portsmouth or Dover Goodwill retail stores. The teens are encouraged to donate a bag of clothing when they go shopping. Michael Coughlin, Executive Director of Goodwill Industries, noted, “The increased number of shoppers at our retail stores has created a higher demand for donated goods. Donating a bag of clothes is a simple way to give back to the local community.”
“Repurposing and refashioning is very popular right now,” noted Susan Brough, Supervisor of Youth Services at the Library. “More and more teens and young adults are learning how to make their own clothing by retrofitting old styles—it’s a win-win, as it brings out individuals’ creativity, while giving a second life to goods.”
The workshops are scheduled as follows:
Tuesday, July 21 2-4 p.m.
Thursday, July 23 2-4 p.m.
Tuesday, August 4, 6-8 p.m.
Thursday, August 6, 6-8 p.m.
