Local Bloggers Share Affordable and Creative Halloween Costume Ideas
Find great costumes at Goodwill for a chance to win prizes at the Ghoulwill Ball!

Northern New England – When it comes to finding your ideal Halloween costume, Goodwill stores offer unlimited possibilities for the budget conscious. With the economy still in recovery mode, why pay full price for a costume when you can find the materials to create your own for a fraction of the price?

More than 10 local bloggers are currently sharing their Halloween and costume decoration inspiration on Goodwill’s Thrifting Adventures blog, which is dedicated to providing Goodwill shoppers the latest news and ideas in fashion, thrifting, crafting and DIY projects. Learn how to decorate your front door for Halloween or create a spooky candy display. Be inspired to dress up as a zombie bridesmaid or Cruela De Vil and see how you can get all the materials you need for your costume at Goodwill. You can also access blog posts from last year that offer up great costume ideas, from dressing up as panda bear and gypsy, to a tooth fairy and American tourist!

While Halloween stores offer costumes, many are mass-produced with marked up prices. Goodwill offers affordable options for anyone to create one-of-a-kind outfits without breaking the bank. With items in every shape, size, and color — and from various eras — you can rest assured you will not to run into anyone wearing the exact same costume.

“Goodwill is a one-stop shop for costumes for the entire family. Not only is the whole process of shopping and creating costumes fun, it helps our neighbors,” said Michelle Smith, Communications Manager for Goodwill Industries of Northern New England “Revenues from your Halloween costume purchase fund Goodwill’s job training and career services for people right here in northern New England. In 2011 alone, Goodwill helped close to 50,000 people in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont with job search assistance, training, mentoring and other support services.” Goodwill helps people work in Goodwill stores and in growing industries outside of Goodwill, including facilities services, retail and STEM occupations.

Goodwill encourages you to show off your costume at the Ghoulwill Ball in Manchester, New Hampshire or Portland, Maine. Join us in Manchester on Friday, October 19 at Milly’s Tavern and in Portland on Saturday, October 20 at Port City Music Hall. Both events, sponsored by Clark Insurance and Healey and Associates, are fundraisers that offers guests the opportunity to dress in their Halloween best. The event features live music, dancing, a photo booth and costume prizes for up to $250. Local celebrity judges will be strolling around all evening to decide who came out in their Halloween best!
