Goodwill Partners with SWAPmaine & Portland Flea for All for City-Wide Clothing Swap

Event encourages residents to swap the old for the new while giving back to their community

PORTLAND – Goodwill Industries of Northern New England announced today that it has partnered with SWAPmaine and the Portland Flea for All to present the third city wide clothing swap. The swap will take place on Sunday, June 10, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Portland Flea for All (125 Kennebec Street). Participants are asked to bring a bag of gently used, clean clothing and accessories and leave with a bag of “new to you” items. In the spirit of giving, participants are asked to give more than they get. Remaining clothing and accessories will be donated to Goodwill. There is also a pre-drop off time on Saturday, June 9, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Portland Flea for All. Swappers who bring in their donations early will receive free admission to the swap.

The swap is a fun fashion social event that gives Portland residents an opportunity to give back by donating unwanted clothing and accessories and make an exciting addition to their wardrobe in return. The concept is simple. Swap attendees bring a bag of clothing, shoes, jewelry and accessories. Both men and women are welcome to attend. Using the complimentary bags provided by SWAPmaine, attendees leave with a slew of new-to-them goodies. For those that drop off their bag Saturday, entrance is free. For those that bring their bag on the day of the swap entry is $5. Without a bag the cost is $10.

“We wanted to create a positive community event centered on fashion and style that people can look forward to each year,” noted Michelle Smith, Goodwill Communications Manager. “Our collaboration with SWAPmaine and Portland Flea for All  expands our community impact and encourages Portland residents to come and swap, and then check out the great handmade and vintage items sold by vendors in the Flea for All.” This is the third event Goodwill and SWAPmaine has hosted. The previous two swaps were visited by over 500 people and close to 3,000 pounds of clothing were donated to Goodwill.

Atelier Stitch, which specializes in sewing and quilting classes, will also be at the event, offering free tailoring services to swappers. Attendees will also receive a raffle ticket which can be used to enter to win one of several goodies, provided by the Flea-for-All and Goodwill Industries of Northern New England.
