Nonprofit to Recognize Achievement in Earth Day Ceremony

Belfast and Rockland – Goodwill Industries of Northern New England has earned Energy Star status from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the Belfast Retail Store (13 Goodwill Drive) and Rockland Retail Store (202 Camden Street). Buildings that earn EPA’s Energy Star use 35 percent less energy and generate 35 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than similar buildings across the nation. In order to receive to receive Energy Star status, buildings must be performing 75% or higher than similar buildings for 13 consecutive months. The Belfast store received an Energy Performance rating of 79 and the Rockland store received an Energy Performance rating of 77.

The Belfast and Rockland Retail Stores opened in 2008 and 2009, respectively. The buildings were originally engineered for Energy Star compliance and constructed with several environmentally-friendly features, including an energy-efficient HVAC system, updated flooring and “green” windows to offset energy consumption. Goodwill’s headquarters in Portland also earned Energy Star status.

“We are very proud of our achievement,” noted Randy Finamore, Senior Vice President of Retail Services. “Goodwill is committed to improving the sustainability of our operations, energy efficiency, fuel conservation and other initiatives to reduce and eliminate harmful impacts on the environment. We look forward to continuously improving our operations.” To learn more about Goodwill’s sustainability achievements, please visit www.goodwillnne.org/sustainability.
