“A Circle of Films” Festival at USM Abromson Center Showcases Young Filmmaker’s Goodwill Stories
Event Features Five Short Films and a Live Director’s Discussion with Goodwill CEO Anna Eleanor Roosevelt

Portland – Goodwill announced today that it will host “A Circle of Films,” a presentation of short videos written and directed by local young filmmakers, on Wednesday, May 23, at the Abromson Center at the University of Southern Maine (Bedford Street, Portland).

The featured filmmakers are Nicholas Brennan, Logen Christopher, Jeff Griecci, John Logan Pierson and Stuart Townsend. Goodwill asked each of the directors to write and produce a story that included how the clothing and other items that are given a second life through Goodwill’s retail stores make possible nearly all of what Goodwill accomplishes behind the scenes.

“The idea of working with these young directors was to tell the Goodwill story and engage audiences in a fresh, non-traditional way,” explained Jane Driscoll, Vice President of Public Affairs for Goodwill. “We see these films as a way to jump start conversations about the interconnectedness of all that we do at Goodwill.”

Following the screening, a discussion with the filmmakers led by Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, Goodwill’s President & CEO, will explore the directors’ approaches to storytelling and how they chose to weave Goodwill into those stories.

“In one way, the Circle of Films project is also an extension of Goodwill’s core mission of helping people develop job skills,” said Roosevelt. “We’re seeing firsthand how giving these young, emerging directors a shot at creating something completely new supports their growth and development as the next generation of film professionals.”

The film festival is open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 pm.
