TENANTS HARBOR — Trekkers announced recently that Brandon Caron has begun an 11-month term of service as an AmeriCorps volunteer funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Caron will work within the communities of Cushing, St. George, Thomaston, South Thomaston, Owls Head and Rockland to expand and maintain Trekkers programming and organizational capacity. Caron was recruited in partnership with the Great Strides Rural Education Corps, an AmeriCorps program of Goodwill Industries of Northern New England.
Caron grew up locally in Tenants Harbor and participated in Trekkers as a student. In his junior year of high school he joined the Trekkers Leadership program and continued to volunteer on expeditions until he was hired in August. He attended Eastern Connecticut State University, majoring in Health and Physical Education, before taking the AmeriCorps position. Specifically, Caron will be the program coordinator, working to expand offerings including Quest Treks and Trekkers’ peer mentoring program Big Trek/Little Trek. He will also help in organizing expeditions, recruiting volunteers and overall administrative assistance.
