PLEASE NOTE: This post is archived and may contain news about former programs, events or employees. The seasons are changing, which means it’s time to swap out those wool sweaters with sundresses and short sleeves.
During this closet exchange, a few things will happen:
1. You’ll rediscover clothes that the long winter has made you forget.
2. You’ll swear that being held captive in a bin under your bed for eight months has caused all your shorts to shrink.
3. You’ll come face to face with a pile of attire you have never worn, haven’t worn for years – or wore recently, to your own chagrin.
Some summer clothes will be reunited with the closet. The others – those still-awesome tees, jeans and dresses that just don’t suit you anymore – should go straight to SWAPmaine.
The third SWAPmaine event is taking place Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Portland Flea-for All (125 Kennebec Street, Portland). Attendees bring a bag of clothes (or shoes or jewelry or accessories) that they no longer need and swap them for things they actually want. The cost to get in is $5 with a bag of clothing, $10 if you’re not bringing anything to swap. Drop off your bag between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. the day before and the entry fee is waived. And did we mention the raffles going on throughout?
Proceeds benefit Goodwill Industries of Northern New England – and any clothes not swapped away will go straight to the stores, too.
So go to the swap, and let your closet once again be a place of honor for the clothes you actually wear, not a storage facility for too-small pants and heels that haven’t left the house in four years.
