Portland Bloggers Organize Second SWAPmaine Clothing Swap

From MaineToday

PORTLAND – After a successful first run in May, SWAPmaine is back and bigger than ever! On October 29 the same local bloggers that brought you the first swap will be returning, this time at Portland’s East End School (195 North St.). All proceeds and leftover clothing and accessories will be donated to Goodwill Industries of Northern New England. The swap begins at 12:00 and ends at 3:00, with a pre-swap drop off event from 10:00 to 12:00. There is also a drop off time on Friday, October 28 from 5:00-6:00.

The concept is simple. Swap attendees bring a bag of clothing, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc. Both men and women are welcome to attend! Using the complimentary swag bags provided by SWAPmaine, attendees leave with a slew of new-to-them goodies. For those that drop off their bag Friday evening, entrance is totally free. For those that bring their bag during the pre-swap drop off event the day of entry is $5. If you come after 12:00 entry is $10.

The pre-swap drop off time will offer a breakfast spread supplied by local vendors. Attendees will also receive a raffle ticket which can be used to enter to win one of several goodies provided by local companies. Additional raffle tickets can be purchased for $1.

There will also be a special Halloween section for costumes of all kinds. Swappers are encouraged to bring their old costumes to swap for new ones!

SWAPmaine is also looking for looking for local businesses to donate in a number of ways. This includes special items for a raffle section, iems for the 250 “swag bags” that will be given to attendees, and food and drink for the pre-swap event.

SWAPmaine was organized by a group of Portland bloggers who knew a city-wide swap was in dire need. The organizers behind the swap are Alexandra Munier (Broke207), Laura Serino (Fore Front Fashion), Ashley Jordan (Sweet William), Laura LeBrun Duplissis (sweeter salt), and Kate Sullivan Jones (Sweet Disorder). With the support of Goodwill of Northern New England the swap has become a reality. Goodwill isn’t just a sponsor, they’re also the recipient of all the proceeds and leftover donations.
