Portland Bloggers Organize First Annual SWAPmaine Clothing Swap…

From Maine Today

PORTLAND, ME - Portland offers much in the way of food, fashion and arts # but never a large-scale clothing swap. That all changes on May 21 at Head Games Salon in Portland as a group of local bloggers introduce the first ever SWAPmaine. All proceeds and leftover clothing and accessories will be donated to Goodwill Industries of Northern New England. The swap begins at 11:00 and ends at 4:00 at 116 Free Street.

The concept is simple. Swap attendees bring a bag of clothing, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc. Using the complimentary swag bags provided by SWAPmaine, attendees leave with a slew of new-to-them goodies. For those that drop off their bag the week before (drop-off times will be posted on the SWAPmaine website shortly) entrance is totally free. For those that bring their bag the day of entry is $5. If you’d like to come without a bag, entry is $10.

Portlanders are encouraged to start collecting their clean, un-damaged clothing, shoes, accessories and jewelry now! Men’s and women’s clothing will be accepted.

SWAPmaine was organized by a group of Portland bloggers who knew a city-wide swap was in dire need. The organizers behind the swap are Alexandra Munier (Broke207), Laura Serino (Fore Front Fashion), Ashley Jordan (Sweet William), Laura LeBrun (sweeter salt), Mara Higgins and Keriann Russell (MainelyMara), and Kate Sullivan Jones (Sweet Disorder). With the support of Goodwill of Northern New England the swap has become a reality. Goodwill isn’t just a sponsor, they’re also the recipient of all the proceeds and leftover donations.

SWAPmaine is a no brainer for Portland’s Spring 2011. Attendees gain new wardrobe pieces, support a great cause and have a good time to boot. A win-win!
