
BIDDEFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Workers laid off from major manufacturing companies in York County got a chance to voice their concerns about job prospects with Rep. Chellie Pingree.
Pingree toured the Workforce Solutions Center in Biddeford, which offers re-training programs and other services. she then sat down with several former employees of WestPoint Home. The company which manufactured blankets shuts it doors nearly a year ago. They voiced their concners about restoring unemployment benefits, which ran out for thousands of un-employed Mainers two weeks ago. Pingree voted to approve extending the benefits, but the senate left on recess without voting on the issue.
The senate is expected to return on July 12th, but it is not know when senators will revisit the issue.
