Belfast - Two local Goodwill stores have received a thumb’s up from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The Belfast and Rockland stores were recognized for efforts to improve the environment.
We were there when the Belfast store received the EPA’s Energy Star Award.
Representatives with the city and the state were on hand to help present the award.
Buildings that earn the energy star use 35-percent less energy and generate 35-percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
“Goodwill is the original recycler and has been around a long time really before people were really keyed in on recycling, reuse and repurpose items so it’s only natural people pick up where they began basically any of the things that are donated we find the next best use for the product,” said Vice President of Retail Operations Randy Finamore.
The Belfast store received an energy performance rating of 79, the Rockland store rates a 77.
