There will be a unique art display at First Friday Art Walk on June 5. High school students from South Portland and Deering High Schools created works of art to raise awareness about domestic violence – and they did it with shoes!
Goodwill donated the shoes for this shoe sculpture project, which is a collaboration between Jobs for Maine Graduates (JMG), Family Crisis Services, and Spiral Arts. According to an article in the Portland Press Herald, the exhibit “is intended to show the many faces of domestic violence, from victims to victors and those who offer help in making the transition.”
The shoes will be on display one night only (First Friday Artwalk–be sure to check it out after Art for Everyone!) at the Hope.Gate.Way, 185 High Street, Portland.
