Back to school shopping at Goodwill

From the Examiner.com (Bangor, Maine)

As a single mom, you may be finding it difficult to purchase everything that your child needs for school this year. The economy does not seem to be in good shape, and it may not be for some time yet. Prices are still on the rise.

Before shopping at your regular venues, it is wise to visit the Goodwill store located at 805 Stillwater Avenue. Here you will find a variety of clothes and other needs. Many single moms are opting to shop here first, then move onto shopping at other stores. They know how to survive in a bad economy.

Visiting Goodwill on a regular basis means that you will be able to find newly added items before they are snatched up by someone else. This is because items are donated several times a week. Sometimes these items are brand new and, even when they are not, the clothing is always in good condition.

This store has colored price tag sales on their already low priced items. These provide shoppers with even more savings. Each week, a different color is featured and any item with a tag of that color is half off the tagged price. A significant discount.

Look for Deals On

  • Clothing: Goodwill has a large selection of clothing in all sizes. Give older children a budget for each clothing item, or an overall budget, and let them shop for themselves. Encourage younger children to create a look all their own, within reason.
  • Shoes: These are reasonably priced as well. Be sure the children try them on first and walk around the store in them to be sure they are comfortable.
  • Accessories: Hats, jewelery, sunglasses and other accessories are offered at the Bangor store as well.

  • Bags and Packs: While visiting the store, look for back packs, totes, lunchboxes and other such items. Check them over to be sure there are no holes or weak spots. While shopping for these items, look for containers that will hold lunchbox foods.
  • Supplies: Pencils, pens and other school supplies have also been gleaned from the shelves at this Goodwill store. Look over the shelved areas well to see what you can come up with.

Goodwill stores aid single moms and others in saving a great deal of money on back to school needs. They also offer you a way to give back to your community. Helping other single moms out at this, or any, time of year is easy. Simply go through good quality outgrown and unwanted clothing that is taking up space in your home, and donate everything to a Goodwill store.
