Goodwill and Portsmouth Public Library Host Swap & Donation Drive
Portsmouth, NH – Goodwill Industries of Northern New England and the Portsmouth Public Library will host the second annual Women’s Clothing Swap. The swap will take place on Saturday, May 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Levenson room of the Portsmouth Public Library. Participants are asked to bring a bag of gently used, clean women’s clothing and leave with a bag of “new to you” items. In the spirit of giving, participants are asked to give more than they get. Remaining clothing and accessories will be donated to Goodwill. The popular women’s clothing swap is part of the fourth annual Portsmouth Sustainability Fair, this year held at the Little Harbour School.
This is the second year Goodwill and the Library will host a women’s clothing swap. Last year’s swap was visited by over 200 women and over 1,500 pounds of clothing was donated to Goodwill.
This year three downtown women’s clothing boutiques have signed on to provide early donations for the swap: J.L. Coombs, Re-Enhabit and Second Time Around. “We are so grateful and excited to have these boutiques provide early donations for the swap,” said Jennifer Moore, library assistant and organizer of the swap, “We hope this is just the beginning of an annual event that will continue to grow with each year, providing more opportunity for members of our community to re-connect and share resources.”
The swap is a fun fashion social event that gives women an opportunity to give back by donating unwanted clothing and accessories and make an exciting addition to their wardrobe in return.
The swap also benefits Goodwill Industries of Northern New England, whose local network of thrift stores helps to keep usable goods out of the landfill. Revenue from store sales benefits Goodwill’s job training and human services programs.
