Senior Community Service Employment Program – SCSEP

Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)

Senior Community Service Employment Program - SCSEPSenior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) serves the employment needs of low-income Maine seniors. Goodwill arranges temporary work and training assignments for people age 55 and over.

Our staff provide individual career counseling and job training, customized job placement and support while on the job.  While in the program and working at the training site, all participants are paid by Goodwill to give both the participant and the prospective employer time to get to know one another.

This program has been developed in partnership with the Maine Office of Elder Services and the federal Senior Community Service and Employment Program (SCSEP). Participants are asked to complete 20 hours per week of community service in a nonprofit agency or government related program.

As participants develop their new work skills, placements can be made with private companies as part of our transition to hire strategy.  This “try-out” employment service ensures that the career goals of the participant and business needs of the employer are met.  The goal of the program is for each participant to leave feeling confident and capable that they have the skills and ability to succeed in a or part-time job of their choice.
