Spring Chic to Western Casual

Dear readers,

We are gearing up for our Little Black Dress Event on April 26 in Portland. It is an evening that celebrates everyone’s favorite little black dress, while raising funds to support our Workforce Solutions programs that help people in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont get back to work.

Several of Goodwill’s bloggers have been sharing their favorite little black dress (LBD) in anticipation of the event. Today, Joanne Palmisano, author of Salvage Secrets and SalvageSecretsBlog.com, shares some tips on how to use the little black dress to put together a work outfit, spring night out, western-casual and other looks! She was assisted by Nora Moore.

Little Black Dress Series: Spring Chic to Western Casual

A gal should always have a staple Little Black Dress in her closet.  Not only does it complement every figure, it can serve many purposes: dress it up; dress it down, the combinations are endless.  Chanel perfected it; together, we can modernize it!  The Little Black Dress can be transformed from day to evening wear by adding a few accessories, shoes and jewelry.  I have created five completely different looks for five different occasions.  You can’t go wrong with a Little Black Dress.

Look 1: Winter Work Outfit

A long sweater, light-colored tall suede boots and a three-tiered necklace create the perfect office-ready look.  All that’s missing is a coffee in hand!

Look 2: Spring Night Out

Color is what we’re going for.  A bold scarf, vibrant necklace and strappy sandals transform this look from snow-bunny to spring fling.  After a long mud season, these colors pop!

Look 3:  Western-Casual

The classic motorcycle bomber jacket, layered turquoise necklaces, cream scarf and vintage cowboy boots add a southwestern feel to a simple dress.

Look 4:  Dressy Night Out

This style is perfect for a dress-up event.  Black-on-black accentuates every figure.  Pair a black shawl or scarf with dramatic chandelier earrings, a simple long beaded necklace, and flirty heels for a classic look that never goes out of style.

Look 5: Bohemian Look

For a casual bohemian feel, match up a chunky long sweater with a thick leather belt and vintage lace-up boots.

These looks are so easy to create and so fashionable.  The looks don’t stop there.  By visiting your local Goodwill Store, I’m certain you can find accessories, shoes and much more to dress up your Little Black Dress.
