The Family Room/Kids’ Play Room
Organization is essential in a space like this to prevent total chaos.
We have a dresser in the room which is a great storage system in itself. Here is an activity drawer filled with fun thrifted tins that hold crayons, pencils, and stickers. I love tins and so do my kids, and pretty containers make it much more fun to put things away. At least that’s what I tell myself when I am the one who cleans up after the kids finally are in bed.
This is another good idea when you want to keep kits together that have lots of small pieces. My kids play a lot with Legos and Playmobil, but the cardboard boxes they come in are not sturdy enough for long-term storage. I decided to cut out the pictures from the box and glue them onto regular plastic shoe boxes. Easy and tidy-looking on the shelf– and the kids know exactly where things go. By the way, both Playmobil kits were recent finds in a Portland Goodwill.
This is my favorite organizational system at the moment. This folder holds all our DVDs, keeps them dust and scratch-free, and I was finally able to get rid of those space-hogging DVD cases. The folder is as wide as only 5 cases but holds more than a 100 discs. They are often available in the Goodwill office section without the office supply price tag. A must-have in any TV room!
This has just been a small sample of how I use thrifted items to keep my home more organized. However, I have a confession. My office is a complete disaster at the moment. However, that will be my spring project. I will tell you about that and show you the before and after in a future post.
Happy Spring Cleaning!
