Dear readers,
Happy New Year! We hope you had a healthy and relaxing holiday season – we look forward lots of new content related to fashion, thrift and repurposing in 2012. We are kicking off the new year with a guest post from Nate, who is the General Manager of the Vermont Lake Monsters baseball club. Based in Burlington, VT, Goodwill partners with the Lake Monsters every summer for a donation drive.
Nate, who is also an avid Goodwill shopper, recently told us about a great sports memorabilia find he made at the Williston store.
Can I have your autograph? Goodwill Sports Memorabilia Find
The amazing thing about Goodwill is that you never know what you will find. One day my girlfriend and I decided to go shopping for some home decor at the Williston store, and to my surprise I found more than I was looking for.
As I looked through the home items, I spotted a large, framed picture of football quarterback (now retired) Brett Favre with his signature on it. The closer I looked at the piece, the more it made me wonder. Why was it in such a nice frame? As a sports memorabilia collector, I began to look closer and closer at the piece and think, what if that signature was real? I have seen these a million times, where posters were made with facsimile signatures on them. At that point, I looked a little closer. Each time I looked at it, I said “wait a minute!” I decided that no matter what, that with a low price point, it was worth it either way.
When I got it home, I began to analyze it a little further. I took it out of the frame, and rather than a thin poster paper, it was actually on high quality photo paper. When I looked at the large signature in the light, you could see the streaks of the pen, and the raised ink off the photo paper. When I looked online at other Brett Favre certified autographs, it appeared to be a perfect match. When I looked online to see how much Brett Favre framed 20″x24″ photos were valued at, my eyes opened wide!
Until I get it authenticated, I will never know for sure, but from everything my research tells me, I got another amazing deal at Goodwill!
