That Goodwill Feeling: Finding the Perfect Pair of Shoes

Dear readers,

We are pleased to feature guest blogger Jacqueline Chaput (@MaineDressCo), who tweets about fashion and shopping in Portland, Maine. Today she shares her experience finding the perfect pair of shoes at Goodwill: Franco Sarto cork wedges.

That Goodwill Feeling: Finding the Perfect Pair of Shoes

Every now and then I get the feeling that today is a day I MUST hit up Goodwill. Sometimes I know in the morning and feel anxious all day (read: Christmas Eve anxious), and sometimes I get the urge later in the afternoon as I’m driving home from work and I realize that a Goodwill is just around the corner.

A late afternoon Goodwill feeling was the case the day I picked up these beauties at the Goodwill in South Portland near Millcreek:

Barely worn (if it all) Franco Sarto cork wedges with black leather sandal straps. And the most exciting part of this buy is they are actually a size too big! I live in the land of sizes 8-8.5, where most of the female population seems to thrive. I find shoe selections at second hand shops are usually minimal in this size range due to its popularity. Hence my affinity to look outside the range of my regular shoe size. You never know if there is a brand that runs large or small, or the greatest sneak move–if your size was put back onto the wrong shelf.

So even though I saw that these were a size 9, which I know is too big, I slipped off my Havaianas (quick tip: Goodwill shopping in slip on/off footwear is huge when it comes to quick try-ons) and pulled on the Francos.

Silent Squeal! They fit well, just a smidgen large in the heel.

Higher Silent Squeal! They cost $8.99!

Under $10 for a pair of Franco Sartos, a brand that I’ve come to enjoy and have spent $50+ on at department stores in the past.

After finding this steal I knew nothing else could compare, so I hoofed it to the checkout with visions of outfits + fab Franco Sarto cork wedges in my head.

How do you feel when you snag a fab piece at Goodwill?
