This is the week of shorts in our Summer Series! On Tuesday, Ashley showed us how to make three pairs of fun cut-off shorts. Today, Aimee of Thick & Thrifty shows how you can dress up an old pair of jean cut-offs. Read more below for a simple tutorial on how to add some color and pop to a pair of thrifted jeans.
Summer Series: Repurposed Cut off Shorts
“Summertime, and the livin’ is easy.”
I can’t help but think of the song “Summertime” by Gershwin on every beautiful day of the season. I will randomly break out singing it in my office, even the Janis Joplin version at times. Along with easy summertime livin’ comes easy summertime DIY projects!
What’s better than a worn-in pair of cutoffs? A worn-in pair of cutoffs with super-cool back pockets! I decided to take liberties with a pair of light-wash Old Navy jeans I found at Goodwill for $5 and refashion them into a pair of long cutoffs. I’ve worn them numerous times so far this summer and decided to take more liberties with them by adding tribal-print patches to my derriere!
Here’s how I did it, and how you can, too:
As you can see, you don’t need to be an expert sewer to make this look work. I did a messy zigzag stitch and it works so well with the fabric. Do what you like! Now people won’t be able to resist taking a gander at your lovely derriere!
