We are very excited to feature our first guest post from Michele of the New England Through Yummy Mommy’s Eyes blog. Based in New Hampshire, Michele has been a long time supporter of Goodwill for her family. She wrote her first fashion-based post (ever!) about one of the most important “must-haves” for your fall wardrobe: sweaters.
Fall Fashion Must Haves: Sweaters
Let me preface this post by saying I am not a fashion blogger or a photographer. Not even close. So any advice offered herein is really for the like-minded: a suburban Momma who likes to look cute… on a budget.
Fall in New England brings a unique challenge for our wardrobes. We pretty much have to do a 360 with all of our clothing. Into the closet go the shorts, tanks and bathing suits. Out come the sweaters, pants, and long, wooly socks. It is even worse for households like mine where, somehow, every sweater, every year ends up shrunken, pilled and tattered. Short of a professional cleaner, I am not clear how anybody can keep a sweater for more than a season.
This is a real issue for the frugal-minded, eco-conscious Momma’s like myself. I just can not justify running to the mall every fall and buying 15 sweaters for our family of five… helllllooo Goodwill.
This week I put away my summer dresses and bathing suits and headed to Goodwill with $20 to get my own wardrobe in order for the impending cooler summer days. And what a trip it was… a success as usual.
I first spotted this great grey sweater that I am pretty sure had never been worn. It had the most adorable button detail and was just my size.

I like to choose my sweaters in a neutral color so that I can wear them over my summer tanks and tees. This sweater works perfectly over a white summer tank I already own with a pair of my stand-by capris that I can wear with my tall black boots. (These capris were bought last year from Goodwill because they were my favorite Express fit. They were a tad too short, so I simply fashioned them into capris.)

My next find was the perfect neutral off white sweater complete with gorgeous buttons and a funky balled detail around the top portion of the sweater.

The last sweater I picked was my most favorite. It completes my Mom uniform for the fall. Every mom needs a zip-up sweater to throw over their t-shirt and jeans when they are running out to soccer/dance/piano practice… etc. This sweater has a great vintage look to it and was in perfect condition. I will most likely be wearing this sweater 4-5 times per week with my typical jeans and t-shirt.
These 3 fantastic additions to my wardrobe totaled $12.50. Not only did I save a ton of money, I saved many natural resources by reusing cast-off product. I also adore supporting a business in my community that consistently gives back. I’d say it was a win, win, win.
