Today’s guest post is from Ashley at sweetwilliam. Ashley is currently engaged in a personal challenge to not wear the same outfit for 30 days in a row, while not buying anything new – the challenge has far surpassed the original month go and as of today, Ashley is on day 284!
The Beauty of Imagination and Why You Should Always Try Something On
For me, shopping is always about finding what is different and eye catching and often times, these don’t have the best hanger appeal. I have found so many great things over the years because I took the risk and tried something on. This is the way I got my senior prom dress and the jacket pictured here, along with many other items in the seven years between.
As with the prom dress, something about this jacket stood out to me. I didn’t think it was the right thing or even the prettiest, but I couldn’t walk away from it. This is a good instinct to follow. What possibly could you lose, a few minutes of your time by trying it on? So what. You could gain a great laugh if it doesn’t work, but if it does, you get a new, different, and creative piece to add to your wardrobe. To me, this is the ultimate fashion. This is style. It is not always about following trends. And who wants to look the same as everyone else, anyways? It is about creating a style that looks and feels good to you. And this, in turn, will make you feel more confident and happy, which is always in fashion. As for the jacket…
This is a great transitional piece as we move into spring. It can be worn all day like you would a blazer or it can be worn as a light spring jacket. The print is what attracted me to it. I couldn’t seem to walk away even though I thought it might be too big or it wouldn’t look like I had imagined. It resembles a tribal print, which is actually trending for spring and this jacket would be an interesting way to wear it. Like I said, why not try it on. I did and my mind started going a hundred miles a minute. I had so many ideas as to how I could wear it. And for only $4.99, why not take the risk. The first time I wore it with an all black ensemble as not to be too overpowering. However, I did add a few pops of color in my shoes and lipstick to make it a fun look. For the future, I envision wearing it with a floor length black t-shirt dress I have. And when I am ready to be even bolder, I want to wear it over a black and white striped dress. Mixing patterns is one of my favorite ways to spice up an outfit. This will be over the top. Stay tuned..
